I planned and then I rode. And it was pretty much exactly what I was expecting.
The first 10 (or so) miles were ridiculous. Crazy roads and crazier drivers. I always had a little bit of room but the cars were zipping by until I got to the other side of the Southwest Freeway.
Once I got out to the country, things got a lot better. There were no services but I was only out there for a little while, so I didn’t really need anything. When I reached the gas station around mile 30, I was ready for some cold water and a little break.

It was party cloudy which was nice, 82°F but felt like 89°F, Humidity 83%, Wind 1mph from WSW but it didn’t feel that light most of the time!!

Overall it was a great ride. I really enjoyed getting out to the country even though it took a little bit to get out there, such is life here in Houston.
It was nice to pass over the Brazos River which is the same river I will be swimming for my half-Ironman at the end of October. It’s about 200 (or so) miles of twists and turns until the actual spot of the swim, but it’s the same river so that’s something, right?

After this ride, I jumped off for a “Run Off the Bike” training — which just about killed me because of the heat. It was so hot. Once I found my groove with my feet, transitioning from ride to run — I had to cut it short, from the 90 planned minutes to the 40ish that I actually accomplished.
This week we are getting a cold front, so that means I am getting up and running in the morning!
