2026 Brooklyn Half Marathon

I did it!

This was my first half marathon since December of 2018.  8 years ago!!!!

A LOT of life happened since then and as much as I would like to say I’m the same person, in a lot of ways, I am not.

But a runner?  That’s still me.  Not quite as fast but we’ll get there.

Age is my new issue.  Back in 2018, I could stay out all night in San Antonio, do a ghost hunt and drink martinis all night, then get up and run a 2 hour and 1 minute half marathon like it was no big deal.  Now, I hydrate for days before, don’t have any alcohol the week of the race and somehow finish 21 minutes slower.

Well, challenge accepted.  Can I beat a 2 hour half marathon?  We’ll find out in 2026!

Today’s race felt really good.  My goal was an 11 minute pace which I kept the whole time.  I felt strong at the end but my knees felt funny, probably due to a lack of targeted strength training for the sport.  Noted and this will be addressed.

But the organization of the run was the best I’ve ever seen.  They executed a flawless rsce for 29,000 runners and I was super impressed.

It was a great day on the streets and a fantastic way to kick off my 2026 racing season.  Lots of exciting events to look forward to this year, but for now, I have to train.

LFG!
