Hey, I’m Matthew.
I started BikeMatthew back in 2006, originally as a place to share stories from my bike rides, adventures, and whatever chaos I managed to get myself into on two wheels.
Back then, blogging felt simpler. You rode somewhere, saw something interesting, had a weird thought at mile 40, and wrote about it. No algorithms. No personal branding strategy. Just stories. Honestly, humanity peaked somewhere around early internet hobby blogs before everyone decided they needed to become a “creator.”
Over the years, the site evolved because life evolved.
Now BikeMatthew is still rooted in cycling, but it has grown into something bigger: a collection of stories, experiences, lessons, adventures, fitness, travel, food, music, and reflections from a guy trying to build a meaningful life while balancing ambition, burnout, curiosity, and a slightly concerning number of endurance events.
I’m a cyclist, runner, Air Force recruiter, indoor cycling instructor, trumpet player, traveler, and professional overcommitter living in Brooklyn, New York.
Some days that means training for a marathon or an Ironman.
Some days it means teaching a packed cycle class.
Some days it means riding through Brooklyn before sunrise with too much coffee and not enough sleep.
And sometimes it means slowing down long enough to cook something great and share the recipe here.
Lately, I’ve wanted this space to feel more personal and more complete.
Not just ride reports and training updates, but stories about life itself:
the people we meet,
the places we go,
the relationships that shape us,
the meals that bring us comfort,
and the experiences that somehow stay with us years later.
You’ll still find plenty of cycling here.
Probably always will.
But you’ll also find:
- Running and endurance training
- Travel stories
- Recipes and food I genuinely love making
- Fitness and coaching thoughts
- Brooklyn life
- Music
- Reflections on getting older while still chasing hard things
This isn’t a polished influencer site.
I’m not trying to sell you a perfect life.
I’m just documenting mine as honestly as I can.
At 47, I still believe it’s possible to reinvent yourself.
Still possible to build community.
Still possible to find meaning in movement, creativity, friendship, and shared experiences.
Still possible to surprise yourself.
So this is my little corner of the internet.
A place for stories, rides, recipes, thoughts, mistakes, adventures, and whatever comes next.
Thanks for being here.
- Matthew
